In Denmark, research of the university of Aarhus shows that light lame cows recover sooner on straw than on a hard floor. After four weeks on hard floors of the lame cows still 73 percent was lame, on straw 40 percent. On straw 46 percent of the cows recovered totally, on harder floors only 16 percent.
