Holland: 1200 farms infected with bluetongue

In Holland currently more than 1200 farms are infected with bluetongue. The disease emerged a few weeks ago. The previous outbreak was in 2006. The virus mainly affects sheep, but dairy farms have also been infected. On some dairy farms, milk production has fallen by half due to bluetongue. Also in Belgium and Germany now some animals are suspected to be infected.
