The Dutch producer of milking robots Lely has in 2022 reached a settlement with nearly 500 American dairy farmers of the equivalent of 45 million euros. This was due to the dissatisfaction of the dairy farmers with their A4 milking robots, of which approximately 1500 were installed on approximately 500 dairy farms in the United States. According to the dissatisfied dairy farmers, the robots did not meet the performance requirements proposed by Lely when cleaning the teats, when connecting and when milking. In a joint procedure in which approximately 95 percent of the dissatisfied dairy farmers took part, a settlement was agreed in which the dairy farmers could choose between financial compensation or exchanging the A4 robots for A5 robots on attractive terms.
