Switzerland as changed the program to stimulate dairy farms to keep their cattle on pasture. From January 1, 2023 the grazing area that cattle and water buffalo must have available during at least 26 days per month from May to October must cover at least 70 percent of the daily ration of dry matter on each grazing day, except for calves younger than 160 days of age. The premium which is paid annually per adult animal equivalent for cattle and water buffalo is about 350 euro for animals older than 160 days and about 530 euro for animals up to 160 days.
