In Finland in 2019, approximately 20 percent of the dairy farms were using automatic milking systems (2018: 17%). In automatic milking farms, both cell and bacterial counts were higher in milk from in conventional milking farms, irrespective of farm size. In 2019, the geometric mean cell counts for automatic milking facilities were 164 000 cells/ml (2018: 171 000 cells/ml) and the geometric mean bacterial count was 8600 cfu/ml (2018: 8200 cfu/ml).
